Description
Part of my Oil & Water series, this piece began with a simple, hands-on experiment: dripping oil into a shallow pan of water directly over the image, letting the two liquids fight it out in real time. The result is this shifting field of circles and refracted color — unrepeatable, a little unpredictable, and entirely physical rather than digitally generated. Rendered here in Colorado’s own red, white, blue, and yellow, it turns the state flag into something you could almost watch move. This is one of my favorite pieces from the series, and it’s easy to see why once you know how it was made.
